Islamic Calligraphy: Introduction to the Thuluth Script

Course description:

Engage with the elegant thuluth script in this five day course. Learn the letters’ traditional proportions and practice writing them with a reed pen. During the last 2 days of the course, you will produce your own version of a composition provided by the tutor and will have a completed piece to bring home at the end of the workshop.

Student to bring (All materials will be available to purchase from VMCTA art shop)

  • Gloss paper for practice (100-120gsm)
  • Raw silk- 1 for each student
  • Tracing paper- 1 for each student. Size A3 and any thickness
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Sharpener
  • Rubber / eraser
